About Cogito

Cogito is a privately owned UK based company which was founded in 1989 and since then has specialised in the development of tools and utilities for the CA IDMS™ and IBM DB2® database management systems. Cogito software products are in use at some of the world’s largest corporations across all industry sectors including:-

  • banking
  • finance
  • insurance
  • manufacturing
  • power
  • telecommunications
  • travel
  • education
  • government

Indeed, one of its customers (BT) is ranked, according to the Winter Corporations survey of very large databases, as the number two in all of the OLTP databases surveyed on any platform worldwide.

Cogito was formed by a group including three ex-Cullinet employees and its personnel  now  includes no less than three former Cullinet Principal Consultants. Cogito has an unrivalled level of expertise and knowledge of CA IDMS - the directors alone have over 70 years of IDMS knowledge between them, and one of the co-founders, Peter Charles, was recently inducted into the IUA Hall of Fame.

On the DB2 side, Cogito personnel include the highest level of expertise. Cogito recently added the industry renowned Phil Grainger to its staff as Product Manager for DB2 Tools. Phil has been recognised by IBM in 2009 and 2010 as an IBM Data Champion.

Another landmark was achieved in 2010 with the establishment of Cogito Software North America, based in Boston, Massachusetts. Cogito NA will take over the marketing and support roles in the USA and Canada previously performed by its former distributor Helios & Matheson (HMNA).
